Extra-Sensory is a journey into the multi-sensory nature of psychic perception developed by artist Susan Ploetz. This first episode serves as an introduction to the workings of the practice of remote sensing: "remote viewing isn’t about “seeing” with the mind, but sensing with a multisensory mind, which in some way then, engages the whole body." Ploetz shares some of her own experiences with psychic perception, and expands on the theories of visionary artist Ingo Swann, who was part of the New York downtown art scene in the 70s, and experimented with 'psi-abilities'.
Stay tuned for more Extra-Sensory in the coming weeks: in episode 2 listeners will be invited to dive into the practice itself. Through a guided sensory awareness meditation and remote sensing session, listeners will explore extending their sensory awareness and perceiving something beyond their normal physical limits. Episode 3 will be composed of findings listeners have made, and sent to us, be it text, voice or audio.
Susan Ploetz (US/DE) is an artist-researcher working with somatics, theory, writing, performance, simulation and live action role plays (larping) in different configurations. Her work deals with the overlapping spaces of soma and technos; she uses imagination, magical materiality, and protocol to induce emancipatory emotive dissonances and perceptual expansion.
