During the biannual Minimal Music Festival, the Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ organises a series of special concerts, events and take overs dedicated to and inspired by minimal music. This sixth edition focusses on the trancedental experience of music, be it from the American pioneers of minimal music from the sixties, music from (Northern) Africa or Asia or experimental DIY cassettes made in 80's Europe.
Massive Trance is a legendary cassette tape by Marien van Oers (aka Het Zweet), who in the 80's made intense, repetitive music. Through repetition, Van Oers strived to bring his listeners in a state of trance. On the invitation of sound artist Jeroen Vermandere, the cassette tape is reinterpret for surround sound by the Berlin duo Driftmachine.
